but this song is awesome, nonetheless!

okay, so the most i can figure out is that he wrote three songs: "magic," billy idol's "hot in the city," and lita ford's "kiss me deadly" (which was, perhaps only coincidentally, recorded by billy idol's old band, generation x).

a mystery.

whoa, this song is fucking weird as hell

i mean, i remember it from its iconic sequence in ghostbusters:

but i d/l'ed the whole thing, and it's this really bizarre song that starts out as a synthed-up low-power power ballad, leading me to think that maybe i downloaded the wrong song...

...and then, out of nowhere, at the 2:20 mark, it abruptly turns into this completely different thing, a horrifyingly ominous and dissonant minimalist synth-bop. they culled that section for the movie scene. but the song—and that section, in full—are even weirder than you'd think.

well done, mick smiley, whoever you are.

8:02 pm - home, v3.0
in new york. situating myself. feels good so far, but first day of work is tomorrow, so all bets are off. "wear a suit and bring a laptop" was all my boss told me.

oh also i was so tired on the plane (i could barely sleep last night, due to nerves and seeing long-missed people at my sister's birthday party) that i slept through our entire takeoff and 3/4 of the flight. that's never happened before. my cabbie was a nice, old guy who kept calling me "amigo" and complaining about other cabbies on the road, but never pressured me into speaking spanish and got me to my apartment with a startling quickness, given that it was rush hour.

roommates seem great. i mean, i've known one of them for years, and another one of them is a vicarious friend through someone else, so we're all vetted for. and we have a dog! named fidel!

time to go eat some lo mein.

1:17 am - hope begins where the secrets end.
well, gone baby gone was 110% as good as its proponents said it was. i wish i'd seen it while i was still in boston—maybe i would have appreciated the city's hellish beauty when i had the chance.

oh also, i did a bad, bad thing.

i started watching lost.

god have mercy on my soul.

it's not like camp—i hated camp. it's not like high school—i was fine with losing lots of people from there and just holding on to a few. it's not like anything i've known.

i'm so sad that it hasn't even hit me yet.
